Great product but some gotcha's you need to be aware of

So the solid tires (tyres?) are a great product and while the ride is a little bit more jittery than the pneumatic ones hopefully they cure the flat tyre problem for good. After seven flats in six months, I needed a solution and the Alpha one is perfect. Get the easy install screws as they make it much easier.

So gotcha's? Well firstly I don't think you can install the new tyre with the wheel attached via the cable to the motor so you need to undo the deck top and disconnect the motor. Five sets of wires, three as bullets and two as plug connectors. This means cutting off the factory insulation so you need your own heat-shrink or equivalent to put this all back together. As the split rim is on the motor side I don't see how you could install the tyre with the motor still wired in.

Secondly, with the motor disconnected and the wheel fully removed and the split rim removed the tyre is still a tight fit. The solution is to submerge the tyre in boiling water (just from a kettle or jug) and let it sit for 15-20 mins to soften. That and some soapy water sprayed onto the tyre and rim, and it will pop on with a bit of effort. I put mine on the floor and used my weight via my knees to pop it on. Actually, was easy once warm, impossible cold.

From there you use the Easy Install bolts and that bit is now easy and that is the 10 minutes people talk about. To get to this point took about an hour so overall not 10 minutes! Only one tip is to mark your original bolts as when you have a mix of Easy Install and original bolts it is hard to remember which is which. The Easy Install bolts will max out and get tight before the split rim is fully flush so if any of the bolts seem to be fully seated, but the rim is not flush, make sure they are not the Easy Install ones, if so remove them and replace with the originals (as per the instructions).

So tldr, tyres are great and once you know the tricks they go on relatively easily but make sure you have the tools and time to get it done. Very much looking forward to puncture free scooting.

In terms of Aplha Pro my only negative thing was that it took a bit of time to get the tyre posted but this was over the Christmas and New Year break.

Easier than expected

Softening the tires up and using the two longer screws made the tires easy to assemble onto the split rim. They were way easier than I expected to put on the rims without any tools other than the allen wrench. The tires ride smoother than I expected too.
